I think I was in 6th grade when ‘Low End Theory’ came out. This is during the time that I was discovering my love for hip-hop. Buying blank tapes by the box-full, recording songs off the radio and writing down lyrics in my notebook. Not original lyrics…songs from the radio. ‘Scenario’ was definitely somewhere in that bunch of scrap paper, all the way down to the (in)famous growl from Busta Rhymes (then a part of Leaders of the New School). According to TIME, it’s one of the TOP 100 songs of all-time. That’s huge. I remember seeing some of hip-hop’s heavy hitters in the video; Redman, Fab 5 Freddy & De La Soul- who were also a part of the Native Tongues mega-group with ATCQ. Now here I am 20 years later butchering the words and wishing I had that lyric sheet in front of me. Even though I still get hype over great music and [soon-to-be] legendary artists, nothing can replace those moments when I was first starting to fall in love with hip-hop.
